HA wonderful, I enjoyed Zooey Deschanel’s films, besides 500 Days of Summer. This is going to be great!

Haha, yeah… I get the appeal but does she really have to keep… wait what is she doing now?

Ok… this show is going to get annoying really fast.

Through these processes, I was scared to see how the New Girl was going to turn out. I mean, yeah Zooey Deschanel is adorable and lovable being her quirky self, but how much quirk can one viewer handle. So of course, once the pilot was available on Hulu, I checked it out.

What the adverts failed to tell me, over their similar obsession over Deschanel, is that this show is more about the three roommates than Deschanel’s character Jess. While she does play a large part, I found out that the three main “dudes” really balanced the show out spectacularly. And what is fantastic about these guys, Coach, Schmidt, and Nick, is that all three of their personalities reflect that of Jess’s. Lets take a look.

First we have Coach, who is only in 2 episodes. Coach is a focused guy who has difficulties with the opposite sex. While Jess has trouble picking up guys and knowing what guys are into, Coach has the same problem. He even asks Jess to provide him some pointers. Damon Wayans Jr. portrayal is great, although it did take me half the episode to find out that his name was actually coach. It will be sad to see him go but I enjoy Wayans better in Happy Endings. I am just curious to see how his replacement is transitioned in.

Schmidt is the typical dude of the group. He has the how to succeed in business attitude, has the most self-esteem of each of the characters. He loves women, well parts of them, and he can contain his douche attitude. But he relates to Jess as he attempts to fit in with a clique. Where Jess tries to be like other girls in order to get back out to the dating field, Schmidt tries to fit in with his businessmen cohorts. The problem is, like Jess, Schmidt tries to hard to not be himself, making wrong references and forcing himself into a group that does not suit him. But Schmidt does it for the networking for his future, so he has a reason to act like a douche.

Finally we have Nick, who I have been considering the third guy. He seems to be the most like Jess, and could also be a future romantic interest. Right now, that interest is not a priority, set up the series first. Like Jess, Nick is brokenhearted and needs to get back into the dating game. He mopes around like Jess, has his own personal rituals (drunk dialing), and is scared to move on. Plus he owns a bar which automatically makes him cool in the television world. Right? Nick is also the most relatable character of the program as well, having been in a position many romantics have been in before. But this brings us the the main point of the show.

Moving On. Each of these character have their own personal flaws they need to overcome before they are ready to become romantically involved. The New Girl reflects who we are as people. Society is filled with social inept people, looking for some way to make it in this world. The New Girl is a wonderful program because it explores something different than other romantic comedy programs. That sex and relationships are not always second nature, and that it takes more than charm to woo someone your way.

copycats:

“With the 6th season coming up, here’s my take on Dexter’s opening theme (Morning Routine) and ending titles (Blood Theme) combined. As all Dexter fans, I’m waiting for season 6 and that’s my way to pass time :) Enjoy!”

I am satisfied with the ending of Weeds. While it has not yet been renewed for an 8th season, and I truly hope it does not, season 7 is the perfect finale for the series. As with most viewers of tonight’s episode, I have been with the show since the beginning. Yes, I spent seven years of my life watching the adventures of Nancy and her gang deal drugs and avoid getting caught by the authorities and criminal minds alike.

The series has ended many times before for me. Season 3 was the first finale of the series. I say this because it was the season finale that had Nancy move away from the suburbs and the first act of the story. The next few seasons would see Nancy dive deeper into the crime syndicate that deals with weapons and immigration while still keeping the main focus of the series, weed. Each season after season three, I would tell my self over and over again that this will be the final season I watch. But with each of my self made promises, I end up being dragged back in by gripping finale. But tonight’s finale was the best ending to Weeds that I am going to get.

Skipping all the New York bits from the beginning of the episode, the ending of the season was great. The viewers received closure to each of the characters. Nancy released Silas allowing him to pursuit his own happiness however he wanted, Shane repays his mother by protecting her from the authorities in his own way, Andy has his free-spirited large modern family, and Doug… well Doug continues to be Doug. We have a fantastic view of an at peace family, living in their large house with a vineyard. That is until the series ends in a Soprano’s type fashion, Nancy targeted, the screen goes black, and a gunshot is heard.

Sure, we get an ending that gives us both closure and one large question, who shot Nancy? My answer. Nancy has made many enemies over the past few seasons, so it could be anyone. All that the viewer knows, is that with the cut to black ending, we know the story will continue with out us. Or if it does get renewed, without me. I’m done. It has been good.

The Ten Best Comedy Pilots in TV History

The Ten Best Comedy Pilots in TV History:
splitsider:

Writing a pilot is one of the most difficult exercises a comedy writer can undertake. Here are ten that hit it out of the park.

I have decided… that I really need to start blogging again. Not reblogging things that I love but actually writing about things I love. This should start again around the time television shows return to network television. There are a lot of great new shows and shows returning that I really have a lot to say about it. To tell you the truth, I will probably be doing this on my new blog that I started a while back called, TVLevee. A place with a name that I am still working out. A place where I can discuss everything I love about television and why you should be watching this “appliance” now. Television has been in a new golden age for a few years now. I say this because programming has extended beyond network television and have expanded to cable networks. And cable networks are giving the shows shunned by network television, as well as premium networks, have discarded. I am not saying that network television and the premium networks do not have quality programming but sometimes shows do not fit the rest of their schedule. So keep an eye out for TVLevee. I am hoping that it is informative as well as entertaining.

What is the mission? Trying to create a place where reviews, spoilers, and previews can all be found in on place on Tumblr. To expand the site, contributions from multiple users will be accepted. Looking to see what others are thinking about today’s television and how shows evolve and where they go from here.

If you have a review, a preview, or ideas on how a certain tv show, your contributions are needed. Let us see how we can break the barriers to allow the waters of pop-culture flow over.

Portlandia Coming January 21st.
